Elizabeth Peratrovich Day Celebration 2025
Hosted by the UAA Alaska Native Studies Program

Honoring a Trailblazer: UAA Celebrates Elizabeth Peratrovich Day with Culture, Community, and Reflection

The University of Alaska Anchorage’s (UAA) Alaska Native Studies Program is hosting a celebration in honor of Elizabeth Peratrovich Day. The event is scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Social Sciences Building (SSB 119 and 100C1) on the UAA campus.

Elizabeth Peratrovich, a member of the Tlingit Nation, was a pivotal figure in Alaska’s civil rights movement. Her passionate advocacy led to the passage of the Anti-Discrimination Act of 1945, one of the first laws in the United States to outlaw racial discrimination.

While Elizabeth Peratrovich Day is officially observed on February 16, UAA’s event offers the Anchorage community an additional opportunity to come together and honor her enduring legacy. Attendees can expect a program that reflects on her contributions and celebrates Alaska Native culture.

This celebration is open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend. For more information, please contact UAA’s Alaska Native Studies Program.
