Meet indigenous artist Jordanne, formerly known as ASCXNSION. A Portland-born, Chinook and Kanaka Maoli MC, singer/songwriter, Jordanne speaks directly to their listeners with euphoric and ethereal sounds with an effortless take on bedroom pop and alternative hip hop. Whether they are going to war on a verse or singing on cloudy choruses, every experience of theirs refuses to remain silent. J-Rez, born Jared Big Canoe, is an Ojibwe / Mohawk hip-hop artist from Georgina Island First Nation Ontario. He is currently based out of Toronto and was previously nominated for an Indigenous Music Award (2018), released three studio albums, and performed alongside Buffy Sainte-Marie, Classified, A Tribe Called Red, Digging Roots, HellnBack, and many more.
Byron Nicholai strikes gold with “Ayagnera (The Beginning)”
Byron Nicholai (Yupik) has just released his new album “Ayagnera (The Beginning).” The 13 track album is now available on all streaming platforms and exclusively on Rising Indigenous Voices Radio.
In 2014, Nicholai began to upload videos of himself singing and dancing in Yupik to the “I Sing, You Dance” Facebook page. His videos began to rise in popularity, resulting in a 2015 performance for the United States Secretary of State John Kerry in Washington, D.C. at the Arctic Council United States Chairmanship kickoff.
